Glenn Beck might not have a lot of advertisers left, but he's got a lot of viewers still. And the Obama administration recently showed off just how terrified they are of the FOX News host by pressuring Shirley Sherrod to leave her position because of the threat of a video appearing on Beck's show. But Beck didn't start off as a journalist (or a demagogue). He came from much humbler beginnings.
Alexander Zaitchik has a new book out, Common Nonsense, looking at the background and bluster of FOX's star, and he joins us in studio, along with historian and author of Nixonland Rick Perlstein via phone, to discuss, give some context, and to try and answer the serious question: how much attention should progressives really be paying to Beck?
Glenn Beck as you know is one of the sickest people on FOX FAKE NEWS. Why is this slim ball even given any time air – radio or TV – why? What amazes me for example – my mailman attached to his mail sack is a radio connection to which he listens to Beck, this man thinks Beck is God and he swears by his word. How do people like a hard working mail man come to think Beck word is the word – I know – these are the same people 45% of our population that also elected Bobble Head Bush and to this date think Bobble Head was a great President. Are these people drugged?

As we can clearly see it’s tit for tat with these right wing nuts, ie..if u go on our ground zero site (which is not even accurate) we will go on one of your sites..mlk… Of course it’s a free country but lets show this country how petty and trite they really are as that’s all they have anyway. And as Thom Hartmann is clearly saying in his broadcasts it’s all about engaging their uneducated base to get out there and vote them in in Nov so they can re-instate the Bush Tax Cuts about to expire for the upper crust. AND it all boils down to one equation,,,911 = muslims = obama= democrats.= expired tax cuts = no 3 million dollar check for 120,000 individuals in the top 1%. BINGO.
