Year in Review: Frank Schaeffer: Fears of Fundamentalism
To kick off our Year in Review week, we'll start on November 6th. In one of our most popular interviews this year, Laura spoke to Frank Schaeffer, son of Francis Schaeffer, one of the important figures in the anti-choice and religious right movements in the United States, introduced to many via Max Blumenthal's book Republican Gomorrah
and in his GRITtv appearance. Frank Schaeffer wrote a book about growing up in the religious right, Crazy for God: How I Grew Up as One of the Elect, Helped Found the Religious Right, and Lived to Take All (or Almost All) of It Back
.
Schaeffer joined Laura on GRITtv for a fascinating interview about his latest book, Patience with God: Faith for People Who Don't Like Religion (or Atheism)
, his own journey, and how people, religious or irreligious, are all looking for answers to the same questions.

Frank Schaeffer reminded me of Ward Churchill saying something like the real enemy is the refusal to dialogue. James Moffett, in one of his books on education, says that this is the problem with these high school competitive debates: No one is after the truth; it’s all about winning the debate. It’s like the battle between lawyers and prosecuting attorneys: neither want the truth if it will destroy their case? Anyway, great interview; wish the whole world would listen.
