Joe Lieberman hijacked news coverage for a while this week, but it was Howard Dean's defense of real health care reform that inspired White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs to a snarling personal response. Ben Bernanke was anointed Time's Person of the Year despite a hold on his renomination and a bill passing the house to audit the Federal Reserve. Is the Establishment closing ranks around its own?
John Nichols, Washington correspondent for The Nation and co-author of the upcoming The Death and Life of American Journalism, thinks so. Karen Fragala Smith of Newsweek and Peter Hart of Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting also join us to discuss this week in news.

Why do you discuss journalists wanting or not to do details. And journalists “think” details are boring…when you should be talking about owners and news editors.
Personality stuff sells, you know that, and keeping the details away from the American people is the M.O. cause 1. they have no respect for American citizens 2. owners know very well how to get Nielsen ratings 3. certain owners demonstrate through their lengthy history that they want to dumb down readers and push conservative votes.
Talking about and blaming journos and journalism is exactly where Murdoch and Company want you. Anywhere but on them and the way the media news biz really works, which you already know, and the legal eco-system that enables all of this theater that you observe but never dissect enablers!
