Fixing Capitalism: Are Regulations Enough?
The economy seems to be stabilizing a bit, but as we’ve discussed many times, people are still suffering and jobless. Yet Citigroup is getting more tax breaks, and Ben Bernanke is Time’s Person of the Year. Matthew Yglesias writes:

Just who is the “government” you refer to Ms. Manhattan Institute? Congress is controlled by the capitalists, and has always been.
WWII forced Continental Europe to throw the industrial oligarchs and Kings out of power, and establish true democratic governments where the power really was balanced between the people and businesses, not just controlled by aristocrats and industrialists.
That never happened in this country. Industrial capitalists have always run this country behind the scenes, since Civil War and Monroe Doctrine! Wake up you people. The closest we got to democracy was when we had a strong labor movement and an independent media. Totally “free-markets” always lead to Oligarchies. Play the Sugarscape game and see!
Absolutely true no distinction now between private sector and government. They are one in the same and the 1500 page bills written by lobbyists is how we got to where we are. Govt subsidy for 25 years and lots of incompetence.
They want to destroy the Govt, because Socrates, Plato and Aristotle all said the State is the only way to protect the many weak from the few powerful, and the few powerful intend to take everyone back to penury like the Middle Ages.
