Historian Howard Zinn famously wrote “You can’t be neutral on a moving train,” and throughout his life he has fought to bring to light the American stories that have been forgotten, or papered over. His most famous works, A People’s History of the United States, and its companion volume, Voices of A People’s History of the United States, have inspired millions to take a different look at their history. One of those inspired was actor Matt Damon, who along with Anthony Arnove and Howard Zinn executive-produced the documentary The People Speak, airing on the History Channel this Sunday, December 13. Actors Harris Yulin of Scarface and Q’orianka Kilcher of The New World were two of the many actors who participated, and they joined us to discuss the film. If you miss the film on Sunday, or just can’t get enough, there’s a CD soundtrack available now and a two-disc DVD coming soon.
