We hear a lot about women in Afghanistan, but their voices too often are silenced. On Tuesday, October 27, join GRITtv host Laura Flanders at CUNY's Center for Place, Culture and Politics with Afghan activists Malalai Joya, the first female Afghan parliamentarian, Awista Ayub and Nasrine Gross to discuss their work rebuilding their country.

This week, our media panel focused on those ignored issues, from the Basta Dobbs! campaign to the general strike in Puerto Rico, the continued standoff in Honduras and the way the mainstream media equates "Latino" with "immigrant." Joining us are Roberto Lovato of Presente.org and New America Media, Erica Gonzalez of El Diario/La Prensa, and Cathy Areu of Catalina magazine and the Washington Post magazine.

Along with Irasema Garza, president of Legal Momentum, Eesha Pandit of Raising Women's Voices For The Health Care We Need, and Dr. David Himmelstein, co-founder of Physicians for a National Health Program, Smith joined Laura on Monday to talk about the rampant inequalities in the existing health care system and to debate whether the proposed reforms in Congress go far enough.

On Wednesday, we were joined by Eve Ensler, founder of V-Day, the organization behind a five-year campaign to stop the violence, Rose Mapendo, a survivor of the war was dubbed UN “humanitarian of the year” this summer for her work with refugees, and Kambale Musavuli, student coordinator for Friends of the Congo.
