Media Myths and Misses on Health Care
Nancy Pelosi unveiled the House health care reform bill today, and most of the media immediately focused on the horse race. Did she have to give up too much, or was it a win for progressives? Yet the details of the bill remained largely unreported, and the debate around the public option remains a question of "dead or alive" rather than one of details, cost-saving, and whether the bill would actually insure more people.
Meanwhile, Joe Lieberman seized headlines by announcing that he would filibuster any Senate bill that contained a public option, and it was up to bloggers like Marcy Wheeler to point out that the media wasn't factchecking Lieberman's statements.
Is the media complicit in the failings of health care reform? Allison Kilkenny of Citizen Radio, Adam Green of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, Diane Archer of the Campaign for America's Future, and Bob Fertik, President of Democrats.com join us to discuss the coverage, good and bad, and what it means for the fate of the public option.

Thanks for your voice on The Ed Show, what is going on in America is wrong. I suppose something that’s hidden in all the discussion of public option is how we are missing a story on what really is causing so many children’s deaths to ‘swine flu’, it’s not just the flu, it’s a used to be hospital acquired infection found commonly in our homes, schools and businesses. MRSA ( methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureaus ) will be the next AIDS and the best health care system in the world is infecting us.
My father got MRSA when he went in for a three day procedure that turned out to be a ten month long nightmare, he didn’t die quickly. Now our kids are getting it and are dead within 24 hours. For over five years now I have asked for a hospital board review from the hospital and was told to never contact them again… ( my mother did ) I’ve contacted local health departments, state health departments, local, state and federal office holders and all I get is either an excuse, no reply at all or sent to the agency or board I started with in the first place. Phil Bredesen’s office referred me to the board I started with in Nashville, I sent him the case no. and that’s the last I’ve heard from him, that was at least a year or two ago. I wrote a letter which is posted on my website to the Wise County Health Department concerning MRSA in October, 2007. To this day I’ve not heard a word from them, been to board of supervisor’s meetings etc. and all I hear is a lot of nothing. Tim Kaine notified me that on July 1, 2008 there would be a law in The Commonwealth of Virginia that all MRSA infections had to be reported. Found out in September of 2008 it was not made into law in a news article or in searching and researching information on hospital acquired infections. Eleven children have died in TN this year from ‘swine flu’. I’m a former embalmer back from the days when AIDS became a household word. My friends, MRSA is going to be the next AIDS. I wonder if anyone had been listening five years ago had listened if these children may still be alive. Clearly the politician and the profit machines agree Profit Care is more important than Patient Care. This should be a top priority in America right now on preventative care. http://www.wisecountyissues.com/?p=62 My link will show you what is deemed, defended and supported in Tennessee and Virginia as the acceptable standards of health care.

As a Reagan respecting conservative capitalist I am all for a Government health care Option as long it does not deceive the public into believing it would be competition to private insurance with tax dollars. Many believe that government insurance would be cheaper because they are a not for profit organization. All the government option needs to do is to allow those that wish to have the public option should pay for it and those that want private insurance pay for that. Just do not demand that folks that want private insurance pay for government insurance and visa-versa. The choice would be simple, pay for what you want not for what you do not want. Leting the profitable survive is sustanable without destroying quality.
