On the Ed Show again last Thursday night, GRITv's own Laura Flanders fought the good fight in a discussion of Obama and Cheney's speeches on national security.
"He messed up the country; he shot his friend. Why are we still listening to Dick Cheney?"
Laura also did her best to get to the important point: with all this reading from the right-wing play book, the media's missing what we need to be discussing, namely the problems with the Obama plan.
"The President can't simultaneously lift up America's "timeless ideals" and timeless detention both."
And she ends with a sobering point about Cheney's claim to have kept Americans safe: "Tell that to the thousands of families around the world grieving this Memorial Day."
Nice try. That Heidi lady's so whacked out she makes Ann Coulter look less mad. (Not quite.)

Thanks Laura.
I’d like to get Dick Cheney out Ed’s backyard and into Leavenworth.

Because I always watch the crazy people? I don’t listen to their investment advice but I do watch them.

Cheney is not relevant the least he could do is tell the truth

Heidi is cross eyed?
By ThingsComeUndone on May 23rd, 2009 at 11:08 am
Terrorist can’t get free nobody has gotten out of Super Max Prisons. Brining the terrorist onto American soil means they get trials based on American law the fear they will escape is a joke.
After 8 years we are afraid we still don’t have enough evidence to put them on trial.
Bush will and should be embarrassed. Dems are afraid that after 8 years even if they were innocent the Detainees will once freed attack us.
By ThingsComeUndone on May 23rd, 2009 at 11:14 am
Screw Heidi. I mean… not really…. you know what I mean. What about Stoddard? Why is she wearing a dog collar? Did her German Shepherd die?

and I gotta go O/T. Sorry. But last night I learned that I am a twelve year old. At least I act like one. The Orlando Magic is my team, man. Only game in town. I was heartbroken. Seriously. I woke up this morning and the first thing I thought about was that game. I’m broken hearted. Just like when my teams (Knicks Rangers) would lose when I was 12 years old. Sniff.

Laura rips. Focused on issues no one else will touch. Go Laura
Get Cheney out of our back yards and off our screens

Morning Edition did a pretty good play-by-play of the end….They may have been in your corner.
By RevBev on May 23rd, 2009 at 11:30 am
Can we please stop calling these people “detainees?” They are prisoners, pure and simple. Is it that hard to bring ourselves to recognize this simple fact? We didn’t torture “detainees,” we tortured prisoners. We didn’t murder “detainees,” we murdered prisoners.
By SouthernDragon on May 23rd, 2009 at 11:30 am
I want SNL to do a skit where the guy who plays Cheney puts on a wig and becomes Liz.
To repeat a FDL question, who’s the most hateful in the Cheney family?
By solai on May 23rd, 2009 at 11:31 am
She’s a media person she should get that fixed. Now is she lived in a country with National Healthcare.
By ThingsComeUndone on May 23rd, 2009 at 11:33 am
A little harsh, sir. Some things cannot be fixed. Im guessing you are not a dr. Even national health care will not fix all things, for God’s sake.

Disgraced former politicians behave differently in other countries.
By Albatross on May 23rd, 2009 at 11:40 am
It never ceases to amaze me how Conservatives are so quick to demonize an entire group of people. The American government doesn’t even know if these detainees are innocent or guilty, yet we’re holding them against their will. Also, if I hear that stupid argument about our government providing them with “three-square meals a day” one more time, I’m going to scream. We had BETTER provide them with meals, clothing and the best health care money can buy because we’re keeping them against their will as so-called prisoners of war in this ridiculous money-wasting nonsense called the “War on Terror”. Ugh! Those people make my blood boil sometimes. They’re totally clueless! Totally!

Without demons the rethugs would not exist.
By foothillsmike on May 23rd, 2009 at 11:46 am
But the fact remains. The MSM will continue to allow him to push his BS to the sheeple. And they, being sheep like, will believe every word that he says because he is dick cheney and he would never lie.
Why in the hell is the only person out in TV land defending the dems against the rethug BS not a dem, but Jesse Ventura?
The dems desperately need to find someone who can go toe to toe with the rethugs on TV and win.
The same damn thing has been happening for at least the last 20 years. The dems in congress are too damn spineless to challenge the lies of the wing nut right. The more time passes, the more the dems allow themselves to be freekin rolled by the thugs. Pelosi is a very excellent example.
Its all well and good to preach to the choir but the message needs to be seen by the sheeple who only watch the networks, who all want more cheney because it means more $$$$$ to them
By timr on May 23rd, 2009 at 11:50 am
Not a DR sorry I was harsh she’s GOPer I just assumed crazy drugs but a normal disability is off limits.
Unless she rags on National Healthcare of course.
By ThingsComeUndone on May 23rd, 2009 at 11:58 am
IMHO, the more Cheney speaks, the more he hangs himself. That b.s. about Abu Ghraib being a few sadistic ‘bad apples’ is a perfect example. He slammed those soldiers pretty hard and agreed that they deserved jail. Soooo, if it can be proven that inhumane treatment was a Cheney/Rummy policy, what will his defense be?
By solai on May 23rd, 2009 at 12:00 pm
Remember the fire in Cheney’s office? Where we saw billows of smoke coming out the window (lol)? Methinks he’s assuming he burned all evidence linking him to AbuGhraib (and who knows what else). I’m thinking too many people kept CYA info and it’s still out there.
By solai on May 23rd, 2009 at 12:03 pm
I am afraid that the more his rantings are covered favorably by the lunatic press; the more cover it gives to the dittoheads.
By foothillsmike on May 23rd, 2009 at 12:05 pm
That’s true and I, too, wish he’d disappear. But, there’s an upside as well. I just can’t believe he doesn’t have a lawyer pleading with him to STFU.
By solai on May 23rd, 2009 at 12:14 pm
Thanks….I was beginning to wonder if you wanted her to have any other transplants as well…;))

Ah, television. Let’s construct a panel of one liberal, one conservative, and one squawkbox, and then talk about a mass of inane pointless poll numbers on issues that aren’t actually in front of us for debate.
Laura brought up an excellent point about the contradiction in Obama’s rhetoric and his actions; something “Ed” saw fit to purely gloss over (even misleading about) when he introduced the segment.
Anyway, I appreciate you posting this video clip, it was a solid reminder why not to watch television “news.” I’ve found that doing searches on Google Video for the names of the leading researchers and academics on a particular subject bears much more fruit. You can consume an hour long interview or lecture buy Warren, Bacevich, Galbraith, etc. and walk away with information… instead of a headache.
By ImperialFlow on May 23rd, 2009 at 12:33 pm
NYT sums it up the best…. Dick Cheney is working hard to get a book deal which has been difficult because of his low approval ratings.
I wish someone on the panel would have pointed this out because we’ve all heard Cheney’s lines before. He isn’t adding anything new and doesn’t have any authority.
By Doggonit on May 23rd, 2009 at 3:00 pm
He’s doing the least truth-telling he can!
By PJEvans on May 23rd, 2009 at 3:18 pm
I thought Dick Cheney made some good points. President Obama did too. I think to be intellectually honest I have to look at the facts not what one group or another says. I think we have to put things in context and not get caught up in hyperbol. I do wish President Obama would use more logic and not depend on so much emotional appeal. His logic seems faulty and more emotion based than it should be. I have to say this is beginng to concern me.

Till age 11, humanish kids can regenerate a finger up to the first joint. Salamanders regenerate entire limbs and tails if wounded. I just regenerated my sense of a world not drenched in fear to the exclusion of The Constitution and the pursuits of happiness. That necessary sense was amputated by Dick Cheney, his multi-vultural friends, and that snarl of contempt he is not ashamed to wear in public.

Privet, greetings from Russia, stumbled upon this forum almost by accident.
Your man Cheney is good for us, a godsend.
He is representative of your whole country (one of the enthusiastic elite minority, the fewer supporters the better.)
He’s inspirational, prompts us here to work out and stay fit (he can contain Russia effectively and preemptively, has won before, in the cold war etc.)
He can help dehumanize the potential enemy (which is you), the most important thing in warfare.
How come we dehumanize anyone for torture when we ourselves tortured people here, both before and after ww2.
Simple, we never tried to think up rules / rationales / proper procedures.
Acting on hate and anger why would one use ‘rules’ and clever little names unless one is a SLEAZY TWO-TIMING COWARD?
Surrender now, we do take war prisoners and don’t beat them.
