How did it all come crashing down? The house that Wall Street built? Well, it wasn’t so much a house as it was a casino. Leslie and Andrew Cockburn discuss their new film, American Casino and explain how we all lost.
Then an interview with Dr. Mads Gilbert, a physician who has worked and practiced medicine in Gaza for more than thirty years. Gilbert, who was one of the few western observers on the ground during Israel’s January bombardment, was recently on a speaking tour in the United States.
Finally, last weekend the Left Forum convened in New York bringing scholars and activists together from around the globe. We bring you some of the highlights.
Thanks to Adam Bryant, Tami Woronoff, Mobile Broadcast News, and The Real News Network for video in tonight’s show.

The interview with the makers of American Casino was great. I cannot wait till it is showing in theaters. I hope it makes it to Europe too. People there are baffled by how people could take so little responsibility for their loans. It’s so important to understand how individuals–and particular groups–were targeted by banks.
The topic of the second interview, the doctor working in Palestine, was moving although not very informative. He had a lot of personal and medical experience but seemed to know little of the politics of the area which I fear will not make him a very convincing “preacher” for any than the already “converted.” (He seemed to think the occupation of Gaza began in 1948; it is actually 42 (long) years old, beginning with the war of 1967.)
Thanks for your show, Ms. Flanders. I enjoy it every time. (And loved the recent got docs on transportation in a Brazilian city(?).)
