GRITtv speaks to Code Pink co-founder Medea Benjamin about a recent crackdown on the office of an Iranian human rights organization, the Center for Protecting Human Rights, led by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Shirin Ebadi. In an earlier interview we also hear about Benjamin's recent trip to Iran with a group of peace activists and whether Obama's approach to the Middle East represents a departure or just more of the same. You can find out more about Code Pink's campaign to keep the Human Rights organization open and sign the petition here.

In response to Medea Benjamin’s remark that the Iranians don’t want democracy brought to their country by the US, I would say that few people here envision the US attempting such. The goal is to frustrate Iranian efforts to develop nuclear weapons which they would use to underpin their own efforts to impose their sociopolitical system on their neighbors.
