Last night's debate was remarkable for its civility. For all the talk of gloves coming off, there was no sign that either candidate was up for much of a fight. Nor the moderator. From Tom Brokaw's tepid questions to the measured responses of both candidates it was hard to tell that the country is on the verge of financial collapse and that global markets have been suffering a steep decline. There was a lot of agreement on foreign policy--increasing troop levels in Afghanistan and defending Israel at all costs. The most substantial differences came on domestic policy--taxes, health care, and government spending.
On GRITtv we take a look at those policy differences with Andrea Batista Schlesinger of the Drum Major Institute for Public Policy; Rosa Clemente, Vice Presidential candidate for the Green Party; Nate Loewentheil of the Roosevelt Institution - the nation's first student think tank; and Dan Gerstein, former senior adviser to Senator Joe Lieberman's vice presidential and presidential campaigns.
We also have a performance and interview with musician Dana Leong. Steal back your vote with Greg Palast. The American News Project takes us to Wall Street - where the bailout didn't stop markets from plummeting. Then . . . Wall Street, meet Swap Meet, from A Year At The Wheel. The Backbone Campaign says Thanks Hank!, and we have the conclusion of All Americana from the Movement Vision Lab.
It's all in this episode of GRITtv.
