In a marathon deal making session, amidst protestors chanting "bailout people not banks," lawmakers reached a deal to move forward with the largest bailout in our nation's history. House speaker Nancy Pelosi declared victory: "We sent a message to Wall Street," she said. "The party is over."
Pelosi also insisted: "This is not a bailout, it's a buy in." Full congressional approval is now required. But who are the real winners in this bailout plan?
Today on GRITtv, our roundtable takes a look at the protest on Wall Street last week, why most Americans aren't buying the bailout, and who stands to benefit from the legislation.
Then Live From Main Street goes virtual. GRITtv will be broadcasting special programming all week from the battleground state of Ohio on the issue of voting rights. WILL YOUR VOTE COUNT? We're joined by BOB FITRAKIS and DONITA JUDGE to discuss voter suppression and protection in Ohio and elsewhere.
