Brownsox, aka Arjun Jaikumar of Daily Kos, fills us in on the ‘08 electoral picture. He covers local and state politics for Kos and says that 2008 is a unique opportunity, perhaps even greater than 2006. There are 60 to 70 seats in the House that are potentially in play and at least a dozen in the Senate. They won’t all go blue, but some will and there may be some surprises too.
Ted Stevens of Alaska, the longest serving Republican in history, faces a tough challenge from Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich. Florida’s electoral map is all over the place. Miami Cubans are warming to Barack Obama and in south Florida two Hispanic American Jewish women are facing off against one another. In Minnesota Al Franken faces a new primary challenger. And in Maine and Oklahoma, high profile races could unseat longtime incumbents.
The net has played a roll in propelling a number of unlikely campaigns in the last few years. Jaikumar, just back from Netroots Nation, discusses why Kos is covering local politics and why the races we don’t hear a lot about may be just as important as the Obama McCain horse race.
