Today on GRITtv we analyze the fallout from the Conference on Media Reform in our media roundtable. Was the "ambush" of Bill Moyers by a producer from the O'Reilly Factor legitimate journalism? Is that kind of tenacity going too far, or does it represent an attitude that should be adopted by other independent journalists? We also discuss who is really feeling the impact from the economic woes, and the latest twists and turns in Presidential politics. On the panel today is Katharine Zaleski, senior editor at the Huffington Post, Robert George, New York Post editorial writer and political blogger, and Doug Henwood, editor of the Left Business Observer.
Also in the studio is Susan Griffin, author of Wrestling With the Angel of Democracy, and Dan Kane from a local teamster chapter reminding us what it means to unite the country. And Laura's speech from the National Conference on Media Reform panel on race and gender in Campaign 2008, courtesy of Fighting Bob.
And as always we're seeking out the best of alternative media, with tonight's show featuring a tour of the Mobile Broadcast News bio-diesel bus with an invitation for independent video journalists to get on board for a working trip across America.
If you're making work you'd like us to air, send an email to grittv (at) grittv (dot) org and put "video" in the subject line. Thanks!

What’s the word for papparazzi ‘journalist’?

I thought Mr. Moyers handled himself magnificently. I also enjoyed the guy who followed Porter out of the area and confronted him as to whether or not this was a set up to embarrass Mr. Moyers.

How can it be legitimate journalism when he ambushed him just to ask him to come on O’reilly’s show? Its not “legitimate journalism” when I approach someone with a microphone and demand they give me money, or demand that they do something that will be of financial benefit to me or my employers. Extortion isn’t a legitimate part of the fact finding press mission–especially not extortion for profit.

Robert George is very obviously defending his boss…!

I stand corrected… Henwood is the major disappointment…!

I watched the video of the ambush on Moyers. I loved how he was able to turn the confrontation into his advantage. Moyers was so poised, refined and poignant. Why won’t Rupert Murdoch, Roger Ailles or Bill O’Reilly come onto Moyers PBS show and exclaim where they went so terribly wrong? Instead the Faux news wants to focus on the next rubber necking train crash, sniper shooting, or war chearleading. They serve no other functionality than pure sensationalistic propaganda.

Uhhhhh, Panel:
As far as poverty being an “issue” wouldn’t you say that the Edward’s supporters, most of whom went to Obama after Edwards withdrew WERE concerned about poverty? We were a formidable group before he dropped out and many of us went to Obama as Clinton’s record on poverty issues was abysmal, draconian and punitive. This is what I saw ….

Link or document your assertion that most Edwards supporters ‘went to Obama.’

I’m hoping to hold a conference on how progressives can do more independent media with a PUNCH in Alaska when I get back there, and Laura’s Grit TV is going to be one of the models we’ll study. Thanks, Laura. I’ll watch today’s episode later this evening, after the traffic slows down a bit.

So lovely to see you on “TV” Laura. Loved the Susan Griffin interview.
Just in case you don’t know, Erin Kotecki Vest of the BlogHer community
(@QueenOfSpain) recently interviewed Obama with questions from the people.
I disagreed with her on Hillary for V.P. but I think she’s come around
Best,
Richard
